Brown Scores Two As Chiefs Win

Marc Brown scored a pair of goals to lead the Spokane Chiefs to a 5-3 win over the Tri-City Americans on Saturday.

The win snaps a two-game skid for Spokane, now 19-8-1 for the season and 11-4 on the road.

The Chiefs are 4-1 against the Americans this year, including 3-0 in the Am’s arena.

Brad Ference staked Spokane to a 1-0 lead at the 3-minute, 37-second mark of the second period with his fifth goal of the year.

Brown stretched the lead to 2-0 with a goal at 16:31, and teammate Kyle Rossiter made it 3-0 just 1:17 later with his fourth goal of the season.

Tri-City got on the board 25 seconds into the third period when Chris Flynn put in a rebound.

Jarrett Thompson pulled the Americans to within one goal when he slapped in his own rebound after 12:06.

Dan Vandermeer scored on an assist from Brandin Cote with 5:28 remaining to put Spokane up 4-2.

The Americans caught Spokane’s Mark Forth with an illegal stick and the ensuing power-play resulted in a goal by Craig Stahl to make it 4-3 at the 16:24 mark.

Brown put the game away when he broke away from Tri-City defenseman Darrell Hay and scored with 1:37 left to play.

For the game, Spokane outshot Tri-City (10-16-1) 44-21.

Spokane travels to Portland for a 6 p.m. matchup with the Winter Hawks tonight.
