Kpbx-Fm Holding Holiday Fund-Raiser

More than 130 items will be sold in live and silent auctions during the annual holiday auction, a fund-raising event for KPBX-FM, Spokane’s public radio station.

The evening, from 5 to 10, Friday at 204 E. Augusta, will feature live music by the Spokane Falls Brass Band, complimentary wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres.

Auction packages include weekends in Seattle, San Francisco and Priest Lake; skiing at area resorts; tickets to local theater productions and Spokane Chiefs hockey games; gift certificates to area businesses and restaurants, including Patsy Clark’s, Tony Roma’s, Chapala’s, The Onion, Auntie’s Bookstore, Franklin Park Florist, and Catered For You; and a variety of gift baskets and parties.

“Leaving Tracks”

Spokane artist Kay O’Rourke will present a slide lecture, “Leaving Tracks,” at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Spokane Falls Community College’s SUB, Lounges A and B.

The presentation will include a review of paintings and mixed-media sculptures she’s created over the last decade.

O’Rourke’s work has been exhibited at the Bellevue Art Museum, Seattle’s Seafirst Gallery and the Cheney Cowles Museum. She is the featured artist at the Lorinda Knight Gallery, 523 W. Sprague, through Jan. 3.

Theater workshop

Pend Oreille Players will present the third in a series of four drama workshops, “The One-Act Play and Movement,” from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Sadie Halstead Middle School in Newport. Terry Steiner, chairman of Spokane Falls Community College’s theater department, will lead the workshop designed to help inexperienced actors learn basic skills.

There is no admission fee, but donations will be accepted.

WSU auditions

The Washington Sate University School of Music and Theatre Arts will hold auditions for Carlisle Floyd’s opera, “Susannah,” from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday and Wednesday in the Bryan Hall auditorium.

Audition requirements include the performance of an aria, art song or musical theater selection, and testing aural and sight-reading skills.

Performances of “Susannah” are scheduled for Mom’s Weekend, April 18 and 19.
