Ritz Buys Kits, Will Keep Name Purchase Gives Photo Chain 810 Stores In 47 States

Ritz Camera Centers, the nation’s largest camera and supply retailer, has acquired Seattle-based Kits Cameras.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Kits Cameras has 140 stores in eight Western states, including two in Spokane and another in Coeur d’Alene. The acquisition gives Beltsville, Md.-based Ritz 810 stores in 47 states.

Company President David Ritz said he plans to maintain the Kits Camera name and to continue to operate Kits’ distribution center here and its administrative facilities.

Kits Cameras was founded in Canada in 1975 and has grown to be the third-largest independent specialty photo chain.

Phil Lalji, Kits chairman and CEO, said all the Kits stores would remain open and there would be no layoffs.
