Jackson Lost To Florida

Compiled From Wire Services

No. 1 Florida is about to find out how many players it takes to replace fullback Terry Jackson.

Jackson, the most versatile player on an offense that was just beginning to hit its stride, tore a ligament in his right knee against Kentucky and is out for the season.

“Only time will tell if his absence is going to hurt us,” coach Steve Spurrier said.

Terrence Harvey, a cornerback at Brigham Young, was killed in a highway accident, three weeks after arriving at the school.

A struggling Arizona football team must now try to regroup without starting quarterback Keith Smith.

Wildcats coach Dick Tomey indicated that Ortege Jenkins will start Saturday night’s home game in Tuscon against San Diego State due to a shoulder injury Smith suffered in last week’s loss at UCLA.

Smith “can raise his arm above his head today,” Tomey said. “That is probably not quite enough to play in a football game.”
