Olympic Post Filled
Gov. Mike Leavitt and Salt Lake City Mayor Deedee Corradini have named Robert Garff, a businessman with political experience, as chairman of the Salt Lake Olympic Organizing Committee.
Garff, chief executive of Garff Enterprises and its 17 Utah auto dealerships, replaces Frank Joklik, the longtime chairman.
The International Olympic Committee is talking with major golf organizations about having the sport in the Olympics, but it almost certainly won’t happen before 2004.
Golf has to compete with dozens of other sports seeking to join the Olympic program. Ballroom dancing, surfing and rugby were the most recent sports to get full recognition from the IOC - one step toward gaining a possible place in the Olympics.
