Valley Voice Editor Gets Expanded Duties

Valley Voice editor Mike Schmeltzer has assumed expanded responsibilities for the newspaper’s Spokane Valley operations.

Schmeltzer will continue to direct the newspaper’s editorial coverage of the Valley and will work to develop new reader-generated editorial content for the Valley Voice, Spokesman-Review editor Chris Peck said.

In addition, he will handle community affairs in the Valley for The Spokesman-Review and will manage the newspaper’s Valley bureau at 13208 E. Sprague.

Schmeltzer, 42, has been editor of the Valley Voice since 1993. He has worked for The SpokesmanReview, as both an editor and reporter, since 1980.

A native of Montana, he came to The Spokesman-Review from Alaska, where he worked for newspapers in Juneau and Anchorage. He also was a contributing editor for Washington Magazine and is the author of two books. His most recent book, “Spokane, A City for Living,” was published in 1996 by American Geographic.
