College volleyball

The University of Pacific won a matchup of division leaders Thursday, defeating Idaho 16-14, 15-4, 15-3 in a Big West Conference volleyball match at Moscow’s Memorial Gym.

The 11th-ranked Tigers (10-2 over-all, 3-0 West Division) finished with a .667 hitting percentage in the final game.

Tracy Chambers, a 6-foot-3 sophomore, hit .650 for Pacific. Her 13 kills were one better than teammate Jennica Smith’s, who hit .429.

Smith added 10 digs, Chambers four blocks and Tanja Dimitrijevic 39 assists.

Pacific coach John Dunning improved his career record to 329-80.

The Vandals (8-7, 2-1 in the East) tailed off after their .275 first-game hitting percentage. Idaho served for the game at 14-13, but lost on hitting errors.

Idaho’s Beth Craig and Jessica Moore had 10 kills apiece. Craig had a team-high .304 attack percentage. Idaho’s Anna Reznicek added 29 assists and nine digs.

“I’m still pleased with our improvement and development,” said Idaho coach Carl Ferreira.

The Vandals remained tied for first place in the division when Boise State (12-6, 2-1) lost to second-ranked Long Beach State 15-6, 15-8, 15-3 on Wednesday. Idaho travels to BSU on Saturday.

An announced crowd of 634 attended the 1 hour, 28-minute match.

Kirsten Krulitz and Lani Kim have left Idaho’s team.

Krulitz wants to concentrate on academics, said Ferreira. The sophomore middle blocker from Wallace played in all 14 Vandals matches.

Kim, a backup setter from Boise, asked for her scholarship release.
