Promising To Be What’s Best For All Feminist Flak Now Doesn’t Understand The Biblical Pattern Of Spiritual Leadership In The Home.

Dave is what Promise Keepers is all about.

Before Promise Keepers, Dave (not his real name) was an absentee Idaho husband who spent more hours at the gym than with his family. His wife was his sex toy, when he wasn’t hitting on other women. Their young kids were growing up wild. Their marriage had no chance - even though the family attended church.

Enter Promise Keepers.

At a Promise Keepers rally, Dave learned how his selfishness was destroying his family. In tears, he repented, along with thousands of other men. He promised to cherish his wife again, to take responsibility for his children, to reach beyond racial and denominational barriers and to practice spiritual, moral, ethical and sexual purity. In short, Dave pledged to follow the Golden Rule, the Promise Keepers’ guiding light.

Who could be against a man honoring his wife and loving his children? Enter the National Organization of Women. NOW President Patricia Ireland has denounced the movement repeatedly and is threatening to disrupt Saturday’s Promise Keepers rally in Washington, D.C. Promise Keepers, Ireland froths, degrades women and demands their subservience. The call by Promise Keepers for men to assume spiritual leadership in their homes terrifies Ireland. She claims males will begin lording it over females again. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Obviously, NOW doesn’t understand the biblical pattern of spiritual leadership in the home - a blueprint embraced by Promise Keepers. Ireland fails to put in context the admonition from Paul in Ephesians 5: “Wives, submit to your husbands.” If she’d finished reading the chapter, she’d see husbands have a tougher command. They’re to love their wives “just as Christ loved the church.” Jesus Christ, of course, loved the church so much He suffered and died for her. That’s the ultimate in sacrificial love. Ireland may not want that kind of devotion from a man, but plenty of women do. Dave’s wife, for example.

Dave, to his wife’s delight, has kept his promises - as thousands of other men before and after him. His marriage is thriving. His children have a father again. And this country is a little bit stronger.
