Security Lights Help Deter Auto Theft, Burglaries

Knight-Ridder

Do security lights deter crime or just displace it to other neighborhoods?

Both, police say. Adequate lighting helps prevent auto thefts and burglaries, and increases people’s sense of security, says one crime-prevention officer. But he says lighting does little to deter residential burglaries, most of which occur during the day.

Unstuck on you: If you keep running into sticky home-improvement situations, Elmer’s is coming out with a new glue that will help you get unstuck. “Our Skin Guard all-strength glue gives you a chance to fix mistakes like gluing your fingers together,” a company spokesman says. “You have enough time to get to a sink and wash it out.”

Choice bulbs: Early birds get the best choice of tulips and daffodils at garden centers and hardware stores. Pick plump bulbs that are clean and hard and plant by mid-October.
