Stags Get Past Eagles

Deer Park’s dark days are becoming a thing of the past.

Brad Martin completed 11 of 19 passes for 113 yards as the Stags (2-2, 2-0) edged visiting Lakeside 24-20 in Great Northern League football Friday.

First-year coach Doug McGill inherited a team that was 1-8 last year and 8-26 the last four years.

Jesse Frickey added 10 receptions for 100 yards, Gabe Holmes 17 carries for 75 yards and Jarred Berg eight solo tackles and two sacks for the Stags.

The Eagles (2-2, 1-1) have advanced to the playoffs three consecutive years.

Brandon Wear had three receptions for 80 yards and Ryan Strowan’s interception ended a final drive as the Indians (2-2, 1-1) defeated the visiting Rams (1-3, 0-2).

Jason Andrews rushed for 97 yards on 18 carries, Ryan Bradeen passed for 90 yards and Justin Divis had 18 tackles for Colville. Danny Leaf completed 15 of 30 for 128 yards for Riverside, which scored with 3:02 left but missed the two-point conversion attempt.

Med. Lake 42, Newport 6

Aaron Carr rushed for 192 yards on 10 carries and the visiting Cardinals (3-1, 1-1) forced six turnovers in defeating the Grizzlies (0-4, 0-2).

Brandon Moore had 13 carries for 103 yards as ML totaled more than 300 rushing yards. Newport’s Seann Mumford had 18 tackles and Eli Marsh completed 8 of 11 for 112 yards.

Quarterback Jeremy Miller rushed for 112 yards on nine carries, and Fred Sunday and Mitch Pierce sacked Adam Fehling on a two-point conversion attempt as the Cougars (4-0) defeated the visiting Trojans (1-3-1).

PF scored with 1:04 left. Fehling made the conversion on a QB sweep, but the play came back on a holding call. Carlos Churape’s extra-point kicks provided the difference.
