Michael Black 1-yard run, Rian Lindell kick. 57 yards, four plays, 1:05. On second-and-15 from the WSU 38-yard-line, quarterback Ryan Leaf scrambles for 21 yards. Flanker Shawn McWashington follows with the catch of the year, a diving grab for a 38-yard gain to the Oregon 3-yard-line.

WSU 14, Oregon 0

Black 6-yard run, Lindell kick. 80 yards, five plays, 1:09. Cougars take over with 2:13 left in the half when cornerback Dee Moronkola intercepts Oregon quarterback Jason Maas in the end zone. Leaf follows with a 25-yard completion to Chris Jackson. Black gains 38 yards on the next play, setting up first down at the Oregon 12 with 1:17 on the clock. With linemen Love Jefferson, Ryan McShane and Lee Harrison creating an impenetrable wall, Black follows right guard Cory Withrow into the end zone.

Third quarter

WSU 14, Oregon 3

Joshua Smith 32-yard field goal. 65 yards, 14 plays, 5:05. Oregon converts twice on third down, but tailback Saladin McCullough drops a screen pass on second-and-4 from the WSU 18. Two plays later, Ducks settle for a field goal.

WSU 21, Oregon 3

Kevin McKenzie 12-yard pass from Leaf, Lindell kick. 81 yards, seven plays, 2:50. Harrison and McShane make great blocks to spring Black for big gains on the drive, but the Cougars are helped most when Oregon’s Caleb Smith is whistled for a late hit on Leaf.

Fourth quarter

WSU 21, Oregon 6

Smith 26-yard field goal. 55 yards, eight plays, 1:03. On first-and-10 from the Oregon 48, Pat Johnson makes a diving grab of an Akili Smith pass for a 39-yard gain.

WSU 21, Oregon 13

Tony Hartley 31-yard pass from A.Smith, J.Smith kick. 43 yards, eight plays, 4:11. Ducks convert on third-and-4 when WSU’s Dorian Boose jumps offside. Drive appears to stall when Boose and Gary Holmes sack Smith on consecutive plays, setting up fourth-and-22 for Oregon. But Hartley gets a step on WSU safety Ray Jackson before hauling in a perfect pass from Smith.

WSU 24, Oregon 13

Lindell 28-yard field goal. 66 yards, 12 plays, 5:14. On third-and-7 from the WSU 38 and 6:30 remaining, receiver Chris Jackson turns a short gain into a 32-yard pickup, breaking free from cornerback Davis Sanchez. Two plays later, Leaf finds Jackson for an 18-yard gain, down to the Oregon 8.
