Associated Press

Alan Beilke kicked a 34-yard field goal in overtime Saturday night, keeping Cal Poly San Luis Obispo unbeaten through five games with a 38-35 victory over New Mexico State.

The winning kick came three plays after New Mexico State’s Nick Cecava, a high school soccer star who never played football until last season, missed a 29-yard field goal attempt.

The Aggies (1-4) appeared ready to strike by ground in overtime. Ty Houghtaling ran 10 yards to the 15 and Denvis Manns gained 3 yards before Houghtaling threw two incomplete passes, bringing Cecava onto the field.

The Mustangs led 35-28 when Antonio Warren scored on a 1-yard run five seconds into the fourth quarter. New Mexico State answered with Damon Willson’s 1-yard scoring plunge with 9:45 to play.

Beilke had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation, but his 45-yard field goal attempt sailed only inches astray of the right goalpost.

Houghtaling completed 10 of 14 for 275 yards and two TDs.

Craig Young led the Mustangs with 153 yards on 21 carries.
