Vote Alternative Helps Levy Pass

Associated Press

City leaders who thought a $135,000 emergency services levy had failed for lack of voter turnout have gotten a pleasant surprise.

A final tally from the primary election last month showed the measure was approved under an alternative provision for meeting the minimum turnout requirement, Snohomish County Auditor Bob Terwilliger said Friday.

The 7,111 fell short of the 40 percent standard for turnout from the last general election, but the 5,519 yes votes met the alternate requirement of 24 percent of the general election turnout.
