Get A Hunch, Bet A Bunch

Has a slump really ended if four third choices win, as was the case on Saturday night, or four second or third picks tally on Sunday? It becomes tempting to turn the picks inside out.

Chief interest tonight surrounds the first race, an attractive sprint for non-winners of two, the seventh , matching a good bunch of $4,000 sprinters and the eighth, an allowance for possible stakes prospects.

In the opener, Mackee’s Dream might look like a cinch if she had raced more than once in nine months. Several opponents have fine recent form. In the seventh, Golden Rolls, which flashed signs of minor-league stardom a year ago, is drawn outside the other speed, leaving consistent Jeremy’s Song and former Playfair Mile winner Ought to Burn as the horses to beat. Mr. Manito brings fine Beyers from Emerald Downs for the eighth, which drew Kennewick sizzler Radust and good Montana 3-year-old Blaktie’nbluejeans.

Here are today’s selections:

FIRST: $10 to win on MACKEE’S DREAM and $5 daily doubles to JUDYLYN, WE BE TRYING and GEE OH DEE.

SIXTH: $2 exacta box of WRITTEN IN MYRRH, CHARGE THE JURY and SHAD ROE DEE ($12). Parlay any winning to win on MR. MANITO in eighth.

SEVENTH: $5 to win on OUGHT TO BURN and $2 exactas pairing him with HOPE’S SPRINGS, JEREMY’S SONG and BLACK BO ($6).

EIGHTH: $10 to win on MR. MANITO.

TENTH: $5 to win on ALY MACKEE.

Original bankroll: $2,000.

Saturday’s result: Broke even.

Sunday’s result: Lost $48.

Present bankroll: $1,494.70.
