Prefab Housing Goes Up For Italy Quake Victims

Compiled From Wire Services

Tremors continued to shake central Italy as prefabricated housing arrived Sunday to house some of the thousands left homeless by a pair of strong earthquakes on Sept. 26.

There were no reports of new damage or injuries from a series of mild aftershocks reported throughout the day. There have been hundreds of aftershocks since the two big quakes.

The ANSA news agency reported prefabricated housing for some of the homeless began arriving Sunday in the Umbria region, where several medieval towns were devastated by the quakes.

The quakes killed 10 people and several frescoes in the renowned Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi were destroyed.

ANSA also said roads in some of the hardest-hit areas were clogged Sunday with “sightseers” who wanted to see the disaster area.
