Residents Want Work Training, Survey Finds

Associated Press

The results of a recent Boise State University survey indicate Idaho residents place a high priority on work-related, technical education for adults in the work force as well as for high school and college students.

The BSU Social Science Research Center “Idaho Public Policy Survey, Number Eight” asked 653 residents seven questions about adult and vocational education.

According to survey results, three of five Idaho residents said high school students have adequate opportunities both for vocational education at the secondary level and to move into technical education at the college level.

However, 85 percent of those surveyed said more work-based credit should be made available to high school students.

This year, 62,000 of Idaho’s 76,000 high school students enrolled in vocational courses and 19 new occupational training programs placed high school students in businesses providing workplace training.
