Most States Miss Federal Deadline

Associated Press

Two-thirds of states failed to meet an Oct. 1 deadline to have their child support computer systems certified by the Department of Health and Human Services. While a few others are near certification, others are not even close.

Seventeen states were certified by Oct. 1: Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Four states’ systems have been reviewed by HHS officials and are expected to be certified: Alabama, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island, plus Puerto Rico and Guam.

Twelve states operating statewide systems are ready to be reviewed: Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Vermont.

Seventeen states are not ready to be reviewed: Alaska, California, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and South Dakota. Also, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands.
