Thieves Hit Church, School In Deer Park
Thieves ransacked a Deer Park church and an elementary school last weekend, smashing windows and grabbing electronic gear, sheriff’s deputies said.
Tri-County Community Church was burglarized between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 8:10 a.m. Sunday, deputies said.
Musical instruments, a tape deck and computer equipment were passed through a smashed-out window and loaded into a pickup truck, according to investigators.
A teacher arriving about 5:30 a.m. Sunday discovered that Riverside Elementary School, about three blocks from the church, had been burglarized.
When the teacher entered her classroom, she saw that the television, compact-disc player and VCR were missing, deputies said.
The burglars got into the school by smashing a window in a front door. They searched the principal’s office, but nothing was taken, deputies said.
Doorknobs in the school were damaged, and a hallway was sprayed with a fire extinguisher.
