Abuse Recovery Will Be Topic At First Presbyterian Forum

First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar, will present a public forum called “Recovering from Abuse: A Wellness Approach” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The forum, presented by several counseling nurse practitioners, is geared for survivors of abuse and their families and health-care providers.

The forum will cover the latest research describing the medical and emotional effects of victims of trauma and abuse as well as treatments recommended from a wellness perspective.

The forum is sponsored by the Mental Health Task Force.

Priorities will be focus

“I Don’t Have Time for God” is a four-week discussion group that will meet at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. The class, which begins Monday, will encourage people to prioritize their activities based on their values and will present a variety of ways this can be achieved.

The class will be held each Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost is $20, and preregistration is required.

Highland Park to host dinner

Highland Park United Methodist Church, 611 S. Garfield, will host its 48th annual teriyaki dinner from noon to 7 p.m. Oct. 18. There will also be a sushi bar, bake sale and bazaar.

Tickets for the event are $8 per person and are limited.

Salvadoran dinner scheduled

St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 2120 E. First, will host its eighth annual Salvadoran dinner on Saturday. Dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m.

The price is $8 for adults, $5 for teens, $3 for kids age 5-12, or $25 per family. Children age 5 and under are free.

Tickets will be available at the door.

Proceeds from the dinner will help the village of Ita Maura in El Salvador obtain water rights. Past dinners have helped the town establish a small dairy to supply milk to the village.

The dinner is sponsored by the Peace and Justice Action League of Spokane.

Recital planned

Soprano Melissa Percy Drumm and pianist Beverly Rhodes will perform a recital at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, 4102 S. Crestline. The recital, “Songs of Devotion” will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The proceeds of the benefit recital will be used to purchase a new piano for the church’s sanctuary.

There is no set admission price, but donations will be accepted.

Methodist rummage sale Saturday

Central United Methodist Church will host a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The church is at 518 W. Third.
