Saxons Jump Out 3-0, Defeat Central Valley

GSL soccer

A quick pace set by three early goals powered Ferris’ 5-1 victory over Central Valley in Greater Spokane League soccer Wednesday.

Ferris players shared the wealth with a different player scoring each goal. Three goals were scored in the first 14 minutes by Abbie Socha, Christine Rehwald (who scored on an assist from Mariah McConnaughey) and Julie Cummings.

An early CV goal attempt was squelched by Ferris goalkeeper Jessica Froehlich. CV put the score at 3-1 just before the half when Rebecca Kochendorfer scored on a pass from Raeanna Jewell, but Ferris wouldn’t be stopped. Courtney Lynn scored, then McConnaughey drilled in the final goal.

Despite injuries that took two of its top players out of the game, Lewis and Clark managed a 4-1 victory over Shadle Park at Hart Field.

Jessica Dinneen had two goals and an assist for the Tigers before she and Jeanine McNalley were tackled, sending both players to the emergency room.

Molly Gill added two goals for LC. Shadle’s goal was scored by Lisa Hansen.

University High fared well at home by shutting out Rogers 6-0. Megan Black scored the first goal off a crossing pass from Casey Lektorich. Leah Brereton racked up two goals, Megan Owen scored one, and Kara Jordan finished the Titans’ scoring with a 45-yarder.

Gonzaga Prep and North Central had a low-scoring night as the Bullpups dominated in a 1-0 victory at NC.

Alecia Nelson passed the ball to Laura Oliva for a goal 24 minutes into the first half. NC attempted only four shots on goal. Gonzaga Prep made 25 shots on NC’s goal, which Jen Weber defended with 15 saves.

At Mead, the Panthers dominated Mt. Spokane 3-0. Janie Strait scored the first goal off an assist from Ashli Anderson. Jenny Frazier passed to Morgan Bennett, who shot from 22 yards out for the next goal, and Frazier added the last.

Elina Gee of Mt. Spokane held the score down with 21 saves. , DataTimes
