Investigators were trying to determine the identity of a person whose remains were found Thursday inside a burning mobile home, Benton County officials said.
Authorities who responded to an early morning report of smoke behind a tavern discovered a nearby single-wide mobile home engulfed in flames, Undersheriff Bill Morey said.
Fire crews put out the blaze, and a person’s charred remains were found inside, Morey said.
The person’s identity and gender had not been positively determined Thursday night, deputy coroner John Abercrombie said.
The cause of death and cause of the fire also remained under investigation, Abercrombie said.
