Teamsters Ratify Contract With Ups

Compiled From Wire Services

Teamsters workers at United Parcel Service have ratified, by a better than 4-to-1 margin, the new five-year contract offer that helped end their strike in August.

“Part-time and full-time Teamsters were united in the fight for good full-time jobs,” said Ken Hall, Teamsters parcel director. “Their determination and support produced this landmark agreement.”

UPS applauded the Teamsters announcement Thursday.

“We’re very gratified our people have accepted this offer,” said James Kelly, chairman and chief executive officer of the Atlanta-based delivery giant.

“Unfortunately, we know this type of agreement could have been negotiated without the pain and hardship of a strike,” he said. “But the events of this summer are behind us and now all of our energy and attention is focused on the future.”

UPS has said it lost $600 million in business during the 15-day strike.
