Compiled From Wire Services

Rebels attacked a police post and military camp in western Uganda, killing 13 people, local news media said Saturday. Victims included a policeman and his family.

The guerrillas staged the attack Thursday as Uganda celebrated its independence day. The raid brought the two-week death toll in insurgent attacks in the region to 40.

A police officer, his wife, two sons and a daughter, along with eight other people, died when rebels attacked the installation in the village of Kakoni, about 200 miles west of Uganda’s capital, Kampala, The Monitor newspaper said.
