Three Spokane women died in a car accident near Sandpoint, the Idaho State Police said Sunday.
They were traveling on U.S. Highway 95 near the town of Algoma about five miles south of Sandpoint when the driver failed to round a curve and the car went off the road.
The vehicle slammed head-on into a tree at up to 70 mph, then bounced and came to a stop in 6 to 8 feet of water, the state police said.
Killed were driver Shanan Meredith Harrington, 22; Jennifer Darlene Reed, 23; and Rebecca Bunnell, 22.
The vehicle was found at 1:53 p.m. Sunday. State police said it is unclear when the accident occurred.
