Turnbull Planning Four Nighttime Hikes

As part of a national celebration, Turnbull Wildlife Refuge near Cheney will hold four night hikes for elementary school students.

The hikes, Tuesday through Friday, are appropriate for fourth-and fifth-graders. The children will learn about nocturnal animals and nighttime foraging.

The hikes will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday night is Family Hike Night, when parents and siblings can join the student hikers.

Turnbull also has scheduled a work day Saturday, during which participants will plant native trees and shrubs near refuge headquarters. Plants and shovels will be provided, but participants should bring lunches. The work day will begin at 9 a.m.

The night hikes and work day are free, but reservations are required. Call 235-4723.
