Braun To Stay At Cal With Extended Pact

Compiled From Wire Services

Removing himself from the list of candidates for Michigan’s head coaching job, California basketball coach Ben Braun said Tuesday he has signed an eight-year contract extension.

“I’m ready to call Cal my career,” he said. “This is it. I’m home now.”

Braun said he been contacted about replacing Steve Fisher, who was fired last Friday, as coach of the Wolverines, but said he didn’t think it was fair to continue talks.

Braun led Cal to a 23-9 record and the regional semifinals in the NCAA tournament last season. It was his first year at Cal after replacing embattled head coach Todd Bozeman.
