Driver Stopped, Hits Officer, Escapes And Remains At Large

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 23-year-old Spokane man hit a female police officer in the chest and ran during a routine traffic stop Tuesday, police said.

Jason A. Amour was stopped by an officer for a traffic violation on Division near Courtland about 7:15 p.m., police said.

He gave the officer a false name and, after telling her his blue eyes were brown, was asked to step out of the car, police said.

Amour then knocked the officer off balance with his arm and ran. She chased him through back yards and jumped over a fence before Amour got away.

He was driving with a suspended license and is wanted on two outstanding traffic warrants, police said. The officer also found marijuana in his car, police said.
