Green Gets $45,000

Compiled From Wire Services

Mitch Green received a bigger payday for a beating in a 1988 street brawl with Mike Tyson than he earned in a bout with the heavyweight champion two years earlier.

A New York jury awarded Green $45,000 - 50 percent more than his $30,000 paycheck for a 10-round fight that Tyson won by decision in 1986. Green had been seeking $25 million.

The panel decided Green had provoked Tyson into a fight outside Dapper Dan’s, a 24-hour leather goods store in Harlem, but held Tyson financially liable for injuries.

Green sustained a broken nose, a five-stitch cut over the bridge of his nose and a swollen left eye during the 4 a.m. fight on Aug. 23, 1988.
