Kmart Corp. said it plans to add aging comedian Bob Hope to its roster of celebrity boosters as the discount retailer gears up for the holidays.
Hope, 94, is expected to appear in a new television commercial airing in some U.S. cities by Nov. 1, pending final approval by the company, said Kmart spokeswoman Mary Lorencz.
Hope’s ad is a general commercial that can be used throughout the year and includes other as-yet-unnamed celebrities, she said.
This isn’t the first time Kmart has used celebrities in its advertising campaign. Comediennes Penny Marshall and Rosie O’Donnell have touted the benefits of shopping at the retailer, which sells goods ranging from children’s clothing to housewares.
Martha Stewart, the diva of home entertainment etiquette and style, also advertises her line of Kmart sheets, linens and paint.
