Man Jailed For Shooting Wild Turkey

From Staff Reports

A 45-year-old Hayden Lake man is serving a jail sentence for illegally killing a wild turkey earlier this year. Magistrate Eugene Marano sent Marvin W. Hanson to the Kootenai County Jail after a jury found him guilty of shooting a wild turkey near Harrison.

Hanson shot the turkey on Jan. 3 after delivering a load of wood to a woman who raises Royal Palmer and wild turkeys, according to court records.

A jury convicted Hanson last month of illegally possessing wildlife, possessing wildlife without a permit, hunting during a closed season and hunting without a license.

Hanson was sentenced on Oct. 2 to serve 180 days in jail on each count, with all but 15 days suspended on each of the first two convictions. Marano ordered Hanson to serve the two 15-day sentences consecutively.

Hanson also was fined $1,000 for each conviction with all but $200 suspended, placed on two years’ probation and had his hunting privileges revoked for three years. , DataTimes
