Black Upsets Becker

Bryon Black upset Boris Becker 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (6-8), 6-4 to advance to the final of the $725,000 Marlboro Tennis Championships in Hong Kong.

Ranked 60th in the world, Black will meet Gustavo Kuerten of Brazil for the title. Kuerten, the reigning French Open champion, defeated Australian Scott Draper 6-3, 6-4.

Karol Kucera, who won when Goran Ivanisevic retired with an injury, will face Sweden’s Magnus Norman, who upset Thomas Muster 6-7 (1-7), 6-2, 7-5, in today’s final of the $975,000 ATP Czech Indoor tennis tournament in Ostrava.

Lisa Raymond was ousted by Nathalie Tauziat 6-3, 7-5 in the semifinal of the $926,000 European Indoor Championships in Zurich, Switzerland. Lindsay Davenport, seeded fourth in the strong field, overpowered defending champion Jana Novotna 6-4, 6-1.

Fabrice Santoro of France ousted Mark Philippoussis 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals of the Lyon Grand Prix tennis tournament in France, and will face Tommy Haas of Germany, who upset defending champion Yevgeny Kafelnikov 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. It will be the first final of Haas’ career.
