Post Falls Earns 2nd Seed For Region I Tournament

Post Falls earned the second seed to the A-1 Region I Tournament by defeating Lake City 15-10, 9-15, 15-4 in an Inland Empire League-ending volleyball match at Coeur d’Alene.

The Trojans (14-8, 6-2) will turn around and again play LC (9-10, 5-3) to open region, but this time at home.

Janelle Ruen had nine kills, eight digs and three blocks for PF. Cindy Holland added 12 digs and Rachel Edmonds 14 assists.

The Trojans rebounded from their second-game loss to scored the first 12 points of the deciding game.

Elsewhere, Sandpoint (17-3, 7-1) wrapped up its league-title season with a 15-5, 15-3 win at Lewiston (4-13, 2-6).

Sandpoint will open region at home Tuesday against Monday’s winner between Lewiston and Coeur d’Alene (4-13, 0-8). Monday’s match, at Lewiston, has been shifted from 7 p.m. to 6.

St. Maries (18-2, 10-0) wrapped up another title season by defeating host Lakeland 15-7, 15-4 in an Intermountain League match at Rathdrum.

Jamie Hammes served 12 for 12 and had four aces, Bridgette O’Dwyer had seven kills and six blocks, and Kim Reid added nine kills for the Lumberjacks.

Becky Hardy had two kills for the Hawks (12-11, 3-7).

Moscow (10-9, 7-3), already assured second place, notched a 15-3, 11-15, 15-10 win at Bonners Ferry (10-11, 4-6).

Amber Paulson had 12 kills and Sarah Walter 14 assists for BF.

St. Maries and Moscow have first-round byes at the A-2 District I-II Tournament. No. 6 Kellogg (3-13) opens at No. 3 Priest River (9-6), and No. 5 Lakeland travels to No. 4 BF when the tourney opens Thursday with loser-out matches.

The tourney continues Saturday at St. Maries, with the host Lumberjacks meeting the Lakeland-BF winner and Moscow matching up with the Kellogg-PR winner.

April Coy had four blocks and served five consecutive points in the second game as Falls Christian (11-2, 6-2) defeated visiting Mullan 15-10, 15-12 at Post Falls to win the North Star League title.

Ashley Taylor added five kills and Meghann Jenkins five blocks for the Eagles, who open Saturday’s A-4 District I Tournament at Lakeside in Plummer against the No. 4 seed. Clark Fork (9-10) hosts Kootenai (8-9) at 7 Tuesday night to determine FC’s opponent.

Mullan (12-6, 5-3) led the second game 5-3 before Coy guided a comeback. The Tigers open district against Lakeside (12-10, 5-3). One team will advance to state.
