Colorado Can’t Stop The Reign In Seattle

Stanford alumni Kate Starbird and Val Whiting each scored 16 points to lead the Seattle Reign to a 79-62 home-opener victory over the Colorado Xplosion Sunday night.

Starbird’s layin and foul shot with 1:24 left in the second quarter put the Reign ahead for good at 34-33.

Seattle used an 8-0 run in the third quarter to put the game away. Angela Aycock and Shalonda Enis hit back-to-back 3-pointers to make it 58-48. Kate Paye, another Stanford product, then made a steal and fed Whiting for a layin to complete the run.

Katie Smith scored 22 points and former Moscow High standout Andrea Lloyd added 16 as Columbus beat New England.

Columbus, the defending ABL champion, opened the fourth quarter with a 16-4 run, with Jannon Roland making two of her four 3-pointers during the game-winning outburst. Lloyd also had four 3-pointers.

Columbus scored 39 points in the fourth quarter, tying the league record the Quest set on Dec. 10, 1996.
