Get A Hunch, Bet A Bunch

Let’s get this straight. Ought To Burn, winner of a Playfair Mile, and Gotto Go Charlie, who’s gotten a piece of several Spokane stakes races, are running for $4,000 claiming tags in tonight’s feature and neither will be favored? Neither may what he used to be - Gotto Go Charlie is 11 - but let’s run one for old time’s sake.

There’s no good reason Ought To Burn, if someone battles Beaver Pelt for the lead, can’t run the field down in the stretch. And, if it rains, Gotto Go Charlie never met a wet track he didn’t like.

One other matter that defies logic. Trainer Tim McCanna, once a local boy wonder and this summer’s Emerald Downs champion, began the weekend 0 for 20. Won’t Natalie’s A Beach break the ice in the eighth?

Here are today’s selections:

FIRST: $2 doubles pairing BLACK JACK BUD and DRUMMER ALY with BRONCO BILLY BAY, HEAVENLY PREY and KNIGHT IN KAPOWSIN ($12).

THIRD: $10 to win on INSPECTOR GREEN and $2 exactas both ways with MY BABY BLUES and ALLTHEWAYTOTHETOP ($8).

FIFTH: $10 to win on ACAJUNAL SMILE. Parlay winnings to NATALIE’S A BEACH in eighth.

SIXTH: $1 trifecta box of EXTREME EDGE, MUY SUAVE, TOM FOOL’S AGENT and CHINESE PIRATE ($24).

EIGHTH: $10 to win on NATALIE’S A BEACH.

NINTH: $10 to win on OUGHT TO BURN and $2 exactas both ways with PRINCE OTTO, GOTTO GO CHARLIE and BEAVER PELT ($12).

Original bankroll: $2,000.

Saturday’s result: Lost $1.50.

Sunday’s result: Lost $25.

Present bankroll: $1,4153.80.
