Milton Whipple Deer Park

Graveside service for Milton Edward Whipple, 72, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park with the flag presentation given by the Veterans of Foreign War Post 3067 of Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Whipple, who was born in Surrey, N.D., died Friday.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army in the European Theater including the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Whipple received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for valor in action.

He worked for many years at Deer Park Pine Industries as a boiler engineer.

His wife, Wanda Whipple, preceded him in death.

He is survived by two sons, Steve Whipple of Laclede, Idaho, and Don Whipple of Deer Park; a daughter, Sharon Cragun of Sequim, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Wood and Josephine Wren, both of Deer Park; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Ralph Royer Spokane

Service for Ralph W. Royer, 57, is planned for 1 p.m. today at Lidgerwood Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Royer died Saturday.

He graduated from Rogers High School.

He went to work for Columbia Lighting as a warehouseman and later became a leadman until his early retirement after 17 years.

Mr. Royer was a member of Lidgerwood Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Lily; three brothers, Ron Royer of Spokane, and Randy and Russell Royer both of Portland; and a sister, Royann Royer of Anchorage, Alaska.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Kidney Center.

Alta Wilson Coeur d’Alene

Service for Alta May Glenn Wilson, 88, will be at 11 a.m. today at Yates Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Wilson, who was born in Mansfield, Wash., died Sunday.

She grew up and attended school in Mansfield before living in Montesano, Wash., for a short time.

She moved to Ritzville, Wash., where she lived for many years and also lived in Spokane for 21 years.

Mrs. Wilson worked as an Avon representative for 23 years before retiring in 1976.

She lived in Chewelah, Wash., before settling in Coeur d’Alene in 1984.

Mrs. Wilson was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Coeur d’Alene and was active in the church community services group.

Three husbands preceded her in death, Clarence Glenn in 1978, Harold Angus in 1990 and Ralph Wilson in 1990.

Survivors include a son, Ed Glenn of Wenatchee; two daughters, May Miller of Walla Walla and Christine Leva of Spokane; two brothers, Joe Love of Missouri and Donald Love of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Grace Anderson Oldtown, Idaho

Graveside service for Grace Evangeline Anderson, 75, will be at 1 p.m. today at Clark Fork (Idaho) Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Anderson, who died Friday, was born in Lake Creek, Idaho.

In 1939 she married Darrell Anderson in Coeur d’Alene.

They lived in a variety of places around the world during his military service years.

In 1956 they moved to Coeur d’Alene, where they lived until they moved to Clark Fork in 1978.

Mrs. Anderson was a founding officer of the Clark Fork Library.

Her husband died in 1983.

Mrs. Anderson moved to Oldtown in 1993.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Hughes of Oldtown and Dawn Webster of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; two sons, Michael and William Anderson, both of St. Maries; two sisters, Margaret Felker of Seattle and Ruth Ruth of San Diego; a brother, Charles Wing of Soap Lake, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Ellen ‘Marie’ (Knight) Hart Spokane

Service for Ellen ‘Marie’ (Knight) Hart, 77, is set for 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Hart died Thursday.

She was born in Bridgeport, Wash.

She graduated from Rogers High School.

Mrs. Hart worked as a waitress and then for Great Northern Railroad. She retired from Burlington Northern Railroad.

Her husband, Wilson Hart, died in 1995.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Carlson of Nine Mile Falls; two sons, Jack Sanderson of Tacoma and Mike Hart of Elk, Wash.; a brother, Gerald Knight of Helena; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Lillian Rettkowski Wilbur, Wash.

Visitation for Lillian M. Rettkowski, 93, will be from 10 a.m. to noon today at Strate Funeral Home in Wilbur. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today at the Wilbur Cemetery.

Mrs. Rettkowski, who died Saturday, was a lifetime Wilbur resident.

She graduated from Wilbur High School.

Mrs. Rettkowski was a homemaker.

Her husband, Max Rettkowski, died in 1968.

Survivors include a son, Wendell Rettkowski of Wilbur.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wilbur Emergency Medical Technicians or the Wilbur Cemetery Association.

Helen Simpson Cheney

Visitation for Helen G. Simpson, 80, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cheney Funeral Chapel. Service is set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Simpson, who was born in Cheney, died Saturday.

She graduated from Cheney High School and Eastern Washington University.

Mrs. Simpson taught school for 18 years at Sunset Elementary School in Airway Heights.

She retired and was a volunteer for the Help One Student to Succeed Program at Betz Elementary School in Cheney.

Mrs. Simpson was a member of Four Lakes Grange No. 904, United Church of Christ in Cheney and Alpha Delta Kappa, Alpha Nu chapter.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Floyd; a son, David Simpson of Cheney; two daughters, Mary Furer of Mercer Island, Wash., and Linda Simpson of Arlington, Va.; and two grandchildren.

Fred Muesham Spokane

Burial service for Fred Hubert Muesham, 86, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Greenwood Cemetery in Hunters, Wash. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Muesham, who was born in Philadelphia, died Thursday.

He worked on the railroad and was a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service. He was a longtime Spokane resident.

Mr. Muesham retired from both occupations.

His wife, Ruth, died in 1986.

He is survived by a stepson, Fred Hamilton of Island City, Ore.

Elizabeth Iseminger Spokane

Memorial service for Elizabeth G. Iseminger, 82, will be at 3 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.

Mrs. Iseminger, who was born in Kendall, Mont., died Saturday.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Iseminger had lived in Spokane since 1954.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce; a son, Robert Iseminger of Kent, Wash.; a brother, Robert Fenton of Seattle; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jean Franklin Princeton, Idaho

Service for E. Jean Franklin, 78, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Nazarene in Princeton. Burial will follow at the Freeze Cemetery north of Potlatch, Idaho. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Franklin, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday.

She graduated from high school in 1937 in Everett, Wash.

In 1938 she married John Franklin in Spokane. Together they lived in various locations before moving to Moscow, Idaho, in 1953.

Mrs. Franklin worked at Tri-State Distributors in Moscow from 1956 to 1966. She then worked at Washington State University in food service at the Rotunda Cafeteria until she retired in 1983.

In 1980 she and her husband moved to Princeton.

She was a member of the Princeton Community Club and served as president.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Mike Franklin of Princeton; a daughter, Sharon Falen of Orovada, Nev.; a half-brother, Walter Jordan and a half-sister, Vera Wagner, both of Spokane; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Max Manteuffel Spokane

Service for Max V. Manteuffel, 92, was Monday at Fourth Memorial Church. Burial was at Moran Prairie Cemetery.

Mr. Manteuffel, who was born in Orleans, Neb., died Friday.

He graduated in 1924 from Orleans High School.

Mr. Manteuffel moved to Spokane in 1943 from St. Francis, Kan.

He worked as a foreman for the Railway Express Agency for 28 years and retired in 1971.

He also operated a wheat farm on Moran Prairie from 1951 to 1965. He sold that farm and then operated another wheat farm on Wild Rose Prairie from 1966 to 1980. He then retired from farming.

Mr. Manteuffel was a member of Fourth Memorial Church and the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks.

His first wife, Esther, died in 1942 and his second wife of 46 years, Frieda, died in 1991.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Ann Calvert and Christine Mikiska, both of Spokane; a son, Eldon Manteuffel of Spokane; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fourth Memorial Church Building Fund.

Jean Nickle Spokane

No service will be held for Jean E. Nickle, 82, at her request. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Woonsocket, S.D., Mrs. Nickle died Friday.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane for 22 years.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Her husband, Kenneth Nickle, died in 1983.

Mrs. Nickle is survived by two sons, Brad Nickle of Veradale and Tom Nickle of Boise; and five grandchildren.

Robert Brown Spokane

Graveside service for Robert V. “Bob” Brown, 68, was Monday at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Brown, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday.

He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.

Mr. Brown owned R. Brown Gifts and Collectibles for the past 16 years with his wife.

He was a member of the Sundance Golf Club.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Ruth; a son, Dan Brown of Wetumpka, Ala.; a daughter, Anne Weber of Spokane; his mother, Madeline Brown of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Center.
