Chinese Breaks Mark
A 17-year-old Chinese runner smashed the women’s world record in the 5,000 meters by more than five seconds at China’s National Games.
Dong Yanmei was timed in 14 minutes, 31.27 seconds, beating the record of 14:36.45 set by Fernanda Ribeiro of Portugal in 1995.
Two of Dong’s teammates also surpassed the old record - Jiang Bo finishing second in 14:31.30 and Liu Shixiang third in 14:32.33.
