Influent, whose five wins in seven 1997 starts made him one of the top choices for the Breeders’ Cup Turf, is injured and will not race again this year.

The Los Angeles City Council tentatively approved development of a $300 million sports and entertainment arena, ending more than a year of debate on how it would be funded. The city will make available $58.5 million, all of which must be repaid. The only public money going to the project is $12 million from the Community Redevelopment Agency.
