Community Centers Offer Halloween Fun

Youngsters and seniors alike will have the opportunity to participate in Halloween activities at community centers on Spokane’s North Side.

The Northeast Youth Center at 4001 N. Cook will host a penny carnival and pumpkin-carving contest on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the scariest and funniest pumpkin.

Age categories are 6 years old and younger, 7 to 8, 9 to 10, 11 to 15, and 16 and older. Admission is free.

On Monday, senior citizens can make the rounds at four different neighborhood centers for a four-course meal, the second annual Jack O’ Lantern Jaunt/Progressive Dinner.

“Witches Brew Soup” will be served at 4:30 p.m. at the Hillyard Senior Center at 4001 N. Cook. At 5:30 p.m., the South Hill Senior Center at 2727 S. Mount Vernon will serve “Count Broccula Salad.

The Sinto Senior Center at 1124 W. Sinto will serve the main course of “Chicken Cordon Boo” at 6:15 p.m. and the “Devil’s Delight” dessert will be served at the Corbin Senior Center at 827 W. Cleveland at 7 p.m.

The ghoulish four-course meal costs $7 for those who provide their own transportation. Those needing a ride to all four sites pay $8. Tickets for the event can be purchased at any of the four centers.

A dance will follow dessert at Corbin. The dance costs $2.50.

Prizes will be awarded for the best costume.
