Dave Koch

Freeman School Board, unchallenged incumbent

Personal: Age 50 … salesman for Motorola Communications … lifetime resident of Freeman area … married, two children … interested in photography, history, farming and model railroading … served 8 years on Freeman board.

Education: Bachelor’s in political science from EWU … favorite class, current world affairs … least favorite, English, maybe math. “And I have to do tons of math every day and I do tons of English every day” … currently reading a book of short stories by Andrei Kodrescu, a Russian ex-patriot.

Issues: trying to improve the education system at Freeman … impact some state policies on education.

Accomplishments: Not just the board, but the whole staff, has dramatically improved the physical plant of the school … dramatically improved the discipline … and dramatically improved the quality of education.

If I were king for a day: “I would match up teachers and children by their teaching style and learning style. I would have teachers who are strong in English or math teach just those subjects, even to elementary students. We assume that every teacher below the sixth grade teaches all subjects equally well. I don’t think that’s true.”
