Sonics Thump Warriors

Vin Baker and Detlef Schrempf had 20 points each Wednesday night to lead the Seattle SuperSonics to a 122-87 victory over the winless Golden State Warriors.

Sam Perkins had seven first-quarter points as the Sonics (2-4) jumped to a 35-19 lead.

Baker scored 10 points in the second quarter, including the first five for the Sonics in the period. Steals by David Wingate led to two baskets by Schrempf late in the quarter, giving the Sonics a 60-31 halftime lead. Golden State (0-7) couldn’t get back into the game.

Greg Anthony’s basket with 8:14 remaining gave the Sonics a 100-68 advantage.

Latrell Sprewell led Golden State with 26 points and Donyell Marshall had 13.

Perkins finished with 16 points and Baker had seven rebounds. Schrempf hit 8 of 11 from the field, including both of his 3-pointers, and was credited with six assists.
