Lean On Eileen

Eileen Calkins

Eileen Calkins, retired physician and longtime Washington resident, is an Everyday Hero to the countless women who have worked or who are presently working on Habitat for Humanity’s women’s projects.

Early in the building of our first house, Eileen volunteered to document our progress with both video and still photography. She stayed for lunch every day and passed out M&Ms. She expanded her role to running errands and loaning tools. She’s willing to go wherever we send her to get whatever we need. She anticipates what tools we might use next and if she has what we need, she loads it into her truck.

Her support and generosity contribute greatly to the success of our projects. She also works with a group of women making quilts for Ogden House and volunteers in many capacities for her church. Those who have known her longer than we have can testify to her lifetime of community service and good deeds.
