No. 12 Osu Suffers First Loss Cowboys Lose When Two-Point Gamble Fails In Second Ot

Associated Press

Missouri brought No. 12 Oklahoma State’s remarkable run up the rankings to a stunning halt Saturday.

The Tigers, after blowing a 30-7 lead in the second half, rallied in the final 2 minutes of regulation to tie the score and then won in two overtimes, 51-50.

When Missouri stopped Tony Lindsay’s scramble well short of the goal line on a 2-point try in the second overtime, Oklahoma State (6-1, 3-1 Big 12) had its first loss of the season and Missouri (5-3, 3-2) had one of its biggest victories in years.

“We have been involved in overtime games, but one that wild, I don’t know if I have ever been involved in one of those,” said Missouri coach Larry Smith.

The game included brilliant play by each quarterback and by Oklahoma State tight end Alonzo Mayes. Missouri’s Corby Jones threw four touchdown passes and ran for two scores, including a 15-yard keeper in the second overtime. Lindsay threw four TDs and ran for one. Mayes had eight catches for 126 yards and two scores before separating a shoulder.

Missouri had been held to 29 yards on five possessions after going ahead 30-7. But trailing 37-30, the Tigers drove 80 yards for the tying score - a 38-yard pass from Jones to Ricky Ross with 18 seconds left.
