Israeli Jets Bomb Bases In Lebanon

Associated Press

Israeli warplanes fired missiles at two suspected guerrilla bases in Lebanon Sunday, the third attack in less than 24 hours, Lebanese security officials said.

The jets raided an Iranianbacked Hezbollah base near the village of Louayzeh in south Lebanon. An Israeli-allied Lebanese militiaman was seriously injured in the attack, said the officials, speaking on customary condition of anonymity.

The air strike followed an ambush of an Israeli patrol in the village of Sojod. The officials said two Israeli soldiers were wounded in the attack, but the Israeli army reported no injuries.

The Israeli army confirmed the air raid, saying the “pilots reported exact hits on targets” and that all planes returned safely to base.

Also Sunday, Israeli jets fired four missiles at a base belonging to the radical Palestinian group, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command, near the town of Naameh, 10 miles south of Beirut, state-run Lebanon Radio reported.

The only casualty was a nurse in the organization’s infirmary, the radio station reported.

The Syrian-backed Palestinian group opposes the Middle East peace process and has participated in attacks against Israeli forces occupying a border strip in southern Lebanon.
