One Dead, 30 Hurt After Bombs Explode At New Delhi Market

Compiled From Wire Services

Two explosions less than 10 minutes apart tore through a crowded New Delhi marketplace Sunday, killing one woman and injuring 30 other people, police said.

The Ajmal Khan Road market was littered with shattered glass and broken lights, police said, but the blasts were relatively small. The shops had been busier than usual because this is festival season in India.

The injured were treated at nearby hospitals, police said.

No one claimed responsibility for the blasts, the fifth of a series of recent explosions in New Delhi.

Shaheed Khalsa Force, a little-known group that claims to be fighting for a separate state for India’s minority’s Sikhs, claimed responsibility for Oct. 18 blasts in another marketplace. But police were not certain if the claim was accurate.
