Poll Finds Workers Expecting To Job Hunt

A national poll of working people found a majority expect to move on to another job within the next five years, even though most are satisfied where they’re at.

The poll made available for release Monday by Louis Harris and Associates said 53 percent of workers expect they will leave their job voluntarily within the next five years, while 17 percent of American workers consider it likely they will be fired or laid off.

While three-quarters deem their jobs interesting, half give their pay and retirement benefits negative ratings. Part-time workers are even more likely to be negative.

Overall, 54 percent are very satisfied, and an additional 36 percent are somewhat satisfied with their jobs.

The sample of 714 workers was part of a Harris Poll of 1,011 adults taken Sept. 10-15. Results have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
