Bill Glasson, who thought his c reer was over after arm surgery last year, took the lead with a two-putt birdie on No. 16 and then parred the last two holes to emerge from a crowded field Sunday and win the Las Vegas Invitational.

Glasson capped his first win in three years by two-putting from 35 feet for par on the last hole, tapping in from 18 inches for a final round 6-under-par 66 and 20-under 340 total in the last regular tournament of the PGA Tour season.

Billy Mayfair and David Edwards finished second, a stroke back, but the outcome was not in doubt after Glasson hit his second shot to the middle of the 18th green and needed only to get down in two to win.

Glasson, two shots behind leader Duffy Waldorf entering the final round of the $1.8 million, 90-hole tournament, showed little reaction to his first win since the 1994 Phoenix Open. Later, though, he appeared near tears as he talked about his injuries that caused him to sit out most of two seasons on the tour.

Waldorf bogeyed the last two holes for a 71 to finish in a tie for third at 343 with Mark Calcavecchia, who closed with a 68.

Former Pullman resident Kirk Triplett shot a 74 to finish at 364. Defending champion Tiger Woods shot a 75 to finish 15 shots back.

Seniors

In El Dorado Hills, Calif., Bob Eastwood, a former San Jose State star playing before a large gallery of family and friends, shot a 4-under-par 68 for a two-stroke victory in the Raley’s Senior Gold Rush Classic.

“Talk about emotions,” said Eastwood, who birdied two of the final four holes for his second victory of the year.
