Man Dies When Mobile Home Slips

From Staff Reports

A LaCrosse, Wash., man was smothered to death when his mobile home fell on him Wednesday, the Whitman County Sheriff’s Department said.

Planning to put the home on cinder blocks, William E. Giles, 37, raised the trailer with a hydraulic jack. He was crawling underneath when he accidentally kicked the jack loose, Sheriff Steve Tomson said.

Giles tried to roll free but the home landed on his lower back and hip, pinning him to the ground, Tomson said.

Whitman County Coroner Pete Martin said Giles died of traumatic asphyxiation.
