Albert Popular With Pro Athletes

Compiled From Wire Services

Marv Albert was named the most popular sportscaster on television by 50 professional baseball, basketball and football players who responded to a survey conducted for the October issue of Sport Magazine.

Albert, who is awaiting trial next month in Virginia on forcible sodomy and assault charges, was named on 24 percent of the ballots cast. He finished ahead of ESPN’s Chris Berman, who received 14 percent of the votes.

The poll was designed to gauge athletes’ attitudes towards the media.

While Albert’s problems with the law doesn’t affect his popularity in the poll, athletes said media members should be considered role models by an overwhelming 80-20 percent margin.
