Competitive Superstocks At Stateline

Paul Delaney Correspondent

Don’t come to Stateline Speedway Saturday expecting the Columbia River sprint cars.

Stateline figures it has an appropriate backup act as the Interstate Superstocks make an unscheduled return to the Post Falls track.

The late-models are replacing the C.R.O.W. cars and will be joined in the 6 p.m. show by Sportsman and Compact Streets. Those local classes will complete their seasons with their season championship races.

The Interstate series was slowed early-on by rain, but since then it has been incredibly competitive.

No driver has been able to win more than once in the six races to date. Libby, Montana’s Mark Owens won last time at Stateline. Ephrata’s Jay Ulmer has used a string of consistent top-five finishes to maintain the points lead over Rick Kellogg of Spokane.

SRP plans benefits

The 5th Annual Dave Rogers Memorial Muscle Car drags will be one of three benefit races Sept. 21 at Spokane Raceway Park. The drags will raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Eight members of the Spokane media will also compete in a special celebrity race, with proceeds from a special purse going to each racer’s favorite charity.

Also, a huge open competition late-model race will help raise money for the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.

For further information on the muscle car drags, contact Ron James at (509) 928-6301. Info on the Vanessa Behan Benefit is available from Vicki at (509) 358-9207 or 482-0899.

SRP will also run bracket drag racing and a full stock car program Saturday. Gates open at 4:30 with racing at 7:30. SRP will also host an Autosports Northwest autocross on Sunday.
