Flood Assistance Deadline Sept. 15

North Idaho property owners who suffered damages during June floods have until Sept. 15 to apply for assistance under the Emergency Watershed Protection Program.

The program is run by the Natural Resources Conservation Service, a division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Counties that are authorized for watershed assistance from the June floods are the five northern counties.

Damage survey reports from North Idaho estimated emergency repair work to cost $215,000. The program is designed to assist in relieving hazards to life and property from floods and other natural disasters that go beyond the scope that individuals can handle.

While individuals can apply for assistance, they must be sponsored by their local government. For more information, contact NRCS offices in Bonners Ferry, Coeur d’Alene, Plummer and Sandpoint.
